Flagstone Patios & Stone Veneer

If you love the compelling beauty of natural stone, whether used alone to create a rustic setting or mixed with manufactured products as a striking visual accent, you must visit us. We stock a myriad of natural stone shapes and sizes suitable for literally every hardscaping application.

Patios, sidewalks, and pool decks can be laid with either “pattern” cut stone (i.e., cut into perfect squares and rectangles) or irregular stone. Either may be dry-laid in stone dust or wet-laid in mortar. Irregular stone may also be placed farther apart with the gaps filled in topsoil and planted with a ground cover for a very natural look.

Pennsylvanians are the envy of our neighbors in New England and the Chesapeake River Basin because of our native Pennsylvania blue stone. Also called flagstone or slate, this flat smoothly wavy stone creates a beautiful patio or walk. Flagstone’s most popular shade is “full color” or variegated; but it is also available in blue and in lilac. Pattern flagstone is cut to standard sizes from 12” by 12” to 24“ by 36” in 6-inch increments. Oversized pieces are stocked for special uses such as capping a pillar.

We stock irregular flagstone in full color, lilac, West Mountain and, when available, antique white. Flagstone treads, steps, and natural cleft risers present interesting options for building steps and capping either natural stone or manufactured block walls.

• Travertine

One of the newest natural stone hardscaping alternatives, Travertine has been used for thousands of years as a veneer in building construction. A member of the limestone family, Travertine is formed by minerals dissolving in ground water and then being deposited on the earth’s surface by rivers, natural springs, or geysers.

Being imported from Europe and South America makes travertine relatively expensive compared to flagstone or manufactured pavers. However, travertine has the unique advantage of retaining an especially cool surface, even after extended exposure to intense sunlight. It should come as no surprise that the use of travertine for pool decks was the application that drew attention to this material for hardscaping.  Visit us for Peruvian travertine from Andes Collection as well as Turkish travertine.

Wall stone • Wallstone

Wall stone offers an amazing range of color and thickness for building any stacked stone project, including retaining walls, free-standing walls, and borders around gardens, trees or ponds. Pennsylvania fieldstone (red or gray) has a weathered look created by decades of exposure to the elements. The extremely flat surfaces of Colonial wall stone (gray, blue or lilac) and tumbled bluestone make these products the easiest choice for dry-stacked wall construction. West Mountain (brown/tan) and Antique White (white/gold) feature a chunkier look with rich color veins.

• Natural Stone Veneer

Natural stone walls can also be created by mortaring natrual stone veneer onto a properly prepared base.  This technique can create a beautiful wall with the appearance of being solid stone.  Veneer also can be used to finish fireplaces, pillars and other outdoor accents as well as for indoor effects.  We offer beautiful natural stone veneer from Quarry Cut as well as simulated stone veneer from both Environmental StoneWorks and EP Henry.

Huge Selection of Boulders • Huge Selection of Boulders
Garden path stones are oversized wall stones perfect for creating natural walkways. The irregular shape and extra thickness also make garden path a good choice for waterfalls. Garden path is available to match most wall stone.

Imagine the look of stunning boulders accenting your landscape. Round, flat, boxy or chunky…smooth, rough, or angular… moss-covered or clean, each boulder is its own unique work of art. Color choices are amazing, from natural Pennsylvania browns, grays, and reds to imported pinks, greens, whites and dramatic stripes of color. Boulders can also be used to build walls or simply set into a wall as a highlight. Many flat boulders are also suitable for waterfalls, seating areas, or other applications only you, the customer, can see with your personal creative touch.
